Care at home in Calgary, from a caregiver your family gets to know

Cedarlight Home Care is a small family run agency. We help seniors and adults stay safe and comfortable in their own homes, with the same caregiver each visit whenever we can arrange it.

Someone from our office answers the phone Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. The first conversation is free and there is nothing to sign.

A group of adults of different ages standing together

The help we provide, and what each visit actually covers.

Most families start with one or two of these and add hours later. You are not locked into a package, and we write down exactly what the caregiver will do before anyone starts.

Personal care

Help with bathing, dressing, grooming and moving safely around the house. Our caregivers work at the pace of the person they are helping and explain what they are doing as they go.

Companionship

Regular visits for conversation, a walk, a game of cards or a drive to an appointment. For many of our clients this is the part of the week they look forward to.

Respite care

Cover for family members who are doing the caring themselves. Book a few hours, a weekend or a fortnight, and we follow the routine you have already set up rather than changing it.

Overnight and live in care

A caregiver in the house through the night, or living in for a longer stretch, when someone should not be on their own. Overnight and live in hours are quoted separately so you can see what each one costs.

Light housekeeping

Laundry, dishes, changing the bed, tidying and keeping the kitchen in order. We take on the jobs that have become hard to manage rather than doing a full house clean.

Medication reminders

Prompts at the right times of day, a written note of what was taken, and a phone call to the family if something does not look right. We remind and record, we do not prescribe.

A small agency, run by the people who answer the phone.

Cedarlight Home Care was started by a Calgary family who had spent two years arranging care for a parent and knew what was missing from it.

We have stayed small on purpose. The person who takes your first call is the person who writes the care plan and the person you speak to when something needs changing, so you are never starting the story again with a stranger. We would rather look after a small number of households properly than a large number badly.

  • Every caregiver is police checked and holds current first aid and CPR.
  • You meet the caregiver before the first visit, not on the doorstep.
  • Our caregivers are our employees, so we carry the insurance and the payroll.
  • The family gets a short note after every visit.
  • One hourly rate per service, agreed in writing before we start.
  • No long contract. Hours can change or stop with a week of notice.

The same caregiver, the same days

We build each schedule around one main caregiver and one familiar back-up. If your caregiver is away, we tell you who is coming instead and why, before the visit rather than after it.

Invoices you can check

Every invoice lists the date, the hours and the caregiver for each visit, so you can match it against what actually happened. If a visit was short, we correct it before you have to ask.

You can reach a person

The office is open Monday to Friday. Families who already have care with us also have an on call number for evenings, weekends and anything that will not keep until Monday morning.

Four steps from your first phone call to the first visit.

Nothing is decided until you have met us and read the plan. Most families go from the first call to the first visit inside a week, and sooner if someone is coming home from hospital.

1

You call us

Tell us what is going on at home. The call usually takes about fifteen minutes and there is no charge for it.

2

We come to the house

One of us visits to meet the person needing care, see how the home is set up, and talk through what would genuinely help.

3

We put the plan in writing

Which days, which hours, what the caregiver will do on each visit and the hourly rate. You keep a copy and we review it with you as things change.

4

We introduce the caregiver

You meet the caregiver before the first shift. If the match is not right, tell us and we will find someone who suits better.

Where our caregivers visit

We cover Calgary and the communities immediately around it. Our caregivers travel from their own homes rather than from one office, which is how we manage early morning and late evening visits on the same day.

  • Calgary, all four quadrants
  • Airdrie
  • Chestermere
  • Cochrane
  • Okotoks
  • Langdon and De Winton

If you live just outside that list, call us anyway. We can often work something out, and if we cannot we will tell you which agency to try next.

Where we are

Northwest Calgary, Alberta

Home visits by arrangement, seven days a week

Tell us what would help at home.

Call and you will get one of us in the office, not a message service. If writing is easier, send an email and we will reply the same working day. We are happy to talk through options even if you decide not to book anything, and we will say so plainly if we think another kind of support would suit you better.
